But the most exciting ceremony is the traditional art of sabrage\, using an authentic saber to open a bottle of sparkling wine. The legend behind sabrage is connected to The French Revolution when Napoleon\, a noted fan of Champagne\, would take victorious rides through the countryside. As he and his cavalry passed through the towns\, villagers lined the streets to toss them bottles of Champagne in celebration. Unable to open the bottles by hand from their horses\, the soldiers simply struck them open using their sabers. \nIn the Breathless sabrage experience\, receive one-on-one instruction from our experienced guide who will teach you the proper technique of opening a bottle of Champagne using impact from the blunt side of a saber. Gallery artists unite to fete the Gallery’s Silver Anniversary and present Celebrating Art\, a collection of works expressing each artist’s celebratory inspiration. Twenty-five percent of the profits from art sales will go to Farm to Pantry\, a Healdsburg non-profit dedicated to reducing hunger. DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \n“Peaceful Edge of Nature” Art Exhibit at The Upstairs Art Gallery in Healdsburg\nSonoma County artist\, Marsha Connell\, presents Peaceful Edge of Nature\, a collection of paintings that capture wild places that calm the spirit. As Connell sets up her easel under the watchful presence of Mount St. Helena\, she becomes one with the landscape. Drawing on her background as painter and naturalist observer\, she absorbs the configurations of shapes\, shadows\, trees and sky from a certain perspective. Dancing in the landscape\, she responds to shifts in color\, texture and temperature to create works in oil\, pastel and watercolor. “I hope viewers find serenity and rejuvenation in these interpretations of unique environments and will also be inspired to protect wild habitats – breathing spaces for body and spirit\, and safe havens for many creatures\,” said the artist.
