But the most exciting ceremony is the traditional art of sabrage\, using an authentic saber to open a bottle of sparkling wine. The legend behind sabrage is connected to The French Revolution when Napoleon\, a noted fan of Champagne\, would take victorious rides through the countryside. As he and his cavalry passed through the towns\, villagers lined the streets to toss them bottles of Champagne in celebration. Unable to open the bottles by hand from their horses\, the soldiers simply struck them open using their sabers. \nIn the Breathless sabrage experience\, receive one-on-one instruction from our experienced guide who will teach you the proper technique of opening a bottle of Champagne using impact from the blunt side of a saber. DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \nHealdsburg 5K Turkey Trot 2021\nThe Healdsburg Turkey Trot is back for 2021! Launched in 2014 and now in its seventh year after a pandemic hiatus\, the 5k fun run/walk will take place on Thanksgiving Day\, November 25th. The race kicks off at 8am and both starts and finishes at 333 Center Street in front of Healdsburg Running Company. The course loops through the quiet streets of Healdsburg and offers an appetite-building morning with fun for all. \nAs in past years\, each registered runner will receive a special commemorative long sleeve t-shirt. Awards are given to the top male and female finishers\, as well as the top youth runners under the age of 13. Prizes are given at random for the great costumes that have become a hallmark of this event. \nThe Healdsburg Turkey Trot is a volunteer community effort that supports the Drew Esquivel Memorial Scholarship\, helping high-achieving Healdsburg High student-athletes fulfill their dreams of going to college. Sponsorships and registrations support this scholarship\, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Healdsburg Sunrise and the Healdsburg High School Interact Club. DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \nPaul McCandless and Art Lande Duo at the 222 in Healdsburg\nA Grammy-nominee\, Lande is an internationally renowned pianist\, composer\, improviser\, drummer and educator. Lande has performed with a long list of jazz greats\, including oe Henderson\, Woody Shaw\, Bobby Hutcherson\, Steve Swallow\, Charlie Haden\, Kenny Wheeler\, Sheila Jordan\, Mark Isham\, Paul McCandless\, and Jan Garbarek. Besides his music\, Lande is also known for his innovative approaches to teaching piano\, improvisation\, and ear training. He teaches in Boulder\, Colorado and often travels internationally to teach at workshops and camps. \nAlso a multi-instrumentalist and composer\, McCandless specializes in the oboe\, English horn\, bass clarinet\, soprano and sopranino saxophones and a collection of folk flutes reflecting his grounding in both classical and jazz disciplines. As a collaborator and solo artist\, McCandless is credited with more than 200 albums and performances with such musicians as Jaco Pastorius\, Carla Bley\, Wynton Marsalis\, Lyle Mays\, Pat Metheny\, Mark Isham\, Steve Reich\, Al Jarreau\, Bruce Hornsby\, Art Lande\, Tony Furtado\, the String Cheese Incident\, Nguyen Le\, Proteus 7 and Fred Simon. \nTHE 222 is a small intimate venue. All seats are very good and have a clear view of the stage. Seating for this concert is club style with round tables that seat four people. Seating will be assigned by the date of purchase\, so the sooner you get your tickets the closer you will be within the ticket level you purchase from. DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \nNo Detail Too Small Art Exhibit at Upstairs Art Gallery in Healdsburg\nLocal artist\, Victoria A. Kochergin\, presents No Detail Too small\, a collection botanical artwork that expresses the unique beauty of each subject. After working in multiple mediums\, Kochergin felt blessed to discover botanical art in 2010\, meeting her love of botanicals\, realism\, perfectionism\, and calling her to adopt this age-old art form. From that moment\, she worked ardently to illustrate the beauty of each subject in her work. “No detail is ever too small to include – a bug eaten leaf\, small hairs on a rose stem\, vein patterns in a leaf – all contribute to the botanical’s character\, spirit and individuality\,” stated the artist. She notes further that it takes weeks to months to complete a piece\, but she doesn’t stop until she feels she has done her best to showcase the beautiful intricacies of the subject.
