Working in acrylics or oils\, she creates three dimensional illusions through layers of translucent color washes. “It’s a joy to be an artist in Sonoma wine country – inspiration abounds\, from the vineyard vistas to the cellars\, to that perfect glass of cabernet\,” noted LaLand. \nWorks include paintings started in the opposite color of the finished image\, such as bright red under a soft blue sky. LaLand’s Fauve painting series grew out of the popularity of these paintings in primary colors. Much of LaLand’s original work is commissions to paint vineyards or a favorite wine cellar collection.
