DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \n“Nature’s Audubon” Art Exhibit at The Upstairs Art Gallery in Healdsburg\nLocal artist\, Ron Sumner\, presents Nature’s Audubon\, a collection of paintings that express unique beauty and character of birds. After studying them in detail\, Sumner captures their unique qualities to bring them to life on the surface of the paper or canvas. While the artist focuses on birds\, he loves to paint other wild animals\, as well. Carefully taking into account the detail of his subjects’ coloration\, bone structure\, texture of the fur or feathers\, these paintings bring out each creature’s personality. The proud bird profiled in “California Quail” locks eyes with the viewer with its “take no prisoners” attitude. “I love to break out the paint brushes when blessed with such charming\, vibrant subjects – they are a joy to paint and I hope they bring a smile to the viewer\,” said Sumner. \nBorn and raised in Northern California\, Sumner began his art training in highschool and earned a BFA from the CA College of Arts and Crafts. Before focusing full-time on fine art\, Sumner was a technical illustrator for a number of years. An award-winning artist\, his portrait of John F. Kennedy is part of the permanent collection of the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston. DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \nSonoma Backroads Art Exhibit at The Upstairs Art Gallery in Healdsburg\nLocal artist\, Beverly Bird\, presents Sonoma Backroads\, a collection of works that explore the rich bounty of Sonoma’s natural beauty. Whether in acrylic\, oil or watercolor\, each painting presents a special aspect of the region’s backroad highlights. “Celebrating Armstrong Woods\,” depicting a favorite scene in the State Park\, fetes the park’s re-opening after the devastating fires of 2020. Looking down from the rolling west county hills\, Sonoma’s dramatic coastline is highlighted in “View from Coleman Valley Road.” Several pieces feature Sonoma’s iconic vineyards. “We may not have the Eiffel Tower\, but Sonoma’s natural attributes are a constant inspiration – life is good when such beauty is at your doorstep\,” stated Bird. \nArt was always key in the artist’s life. Studying art throughout her school years\, she received a degree in art from CSU Long Beach. After a fulfilling career in government\, she retired to Sonoma County to seriously focus on painting. A seasoned participant in the Art at the Source Open Studio program\, Bird exhibits throughout the region. \nMeet the Artist: Beverly Bird will be hosting the gallery August 19 and August 26 11-6. \nThe Staircase Showcase presents Willow LaLand’s A Taste of Wine Country\, a collection of small works that capture the beauty of Sonoma Wine Country. “August Vines” showcases the vines rich and varied colors. The artist’s mastery of detail and lifelike representation led one collector to note that hanging her painting was like installing a window.
