Charlie Brown Christmas
This is just a touch outside of Healdsburg, and Sooooo worth seeing! Sonoma county was the favorite home of Charles Schultz. And now, his son (Monte) allows that tradition to live on so vibrantly in the neighboring berg of Windsor.
Every year, from around December 5th through January 1st, Windsor’s Town Green is lit up like a Christmas Tree – well, like several Christmas Trees is more like it! Usually a few hundred to be exact. Oh, and then there’s a Big One too! And Snow! (snow machine, that is)
Every tree is decorated by a sponsoring organization or group of kids – and it’s Beautiful!! Especially at night!! There are lighted icicles dangling throughout the night’s sky, bursting ice blues and magnificent emerald greens and breathe taking fiery reds radiating from all these trees – it’s just gorgeous! And the trees are artfully decorated, each with its own theme, and some are so cute, you’ll tear-up as you gaze upon them, seeing the heart and vision of their decorators coming to life.
The Charlie Brown Christmas Trees are all in a great pattern that encompasses the park and then runs through it in a big hatch-mark style. And then there’s the gazebo center piece, where Snoopy and Woodstock traditionally hang out for the winter – including famous ace Snoopy’s Sopwith Camel (Red Baron is too scared to show up around these parts – Snoopy scared him off for good!)
It’s truly a one-of-a-kind experience that will leave every child (and I’ll admit, an adult or two) in awe of how wonderful this magnificent season can be…
Stunning colors, brightly lit Christmas Trees, twinkling icicles, snow a’ blowin’, all the spectacle and pageantry you could imagine poured into one beautiful little park… and all bringing back the Christmas child in all of us…
A Secret Gift
On the inaugural year of this wonder-filled Charley Brown Christmas Tree event, Charles Schultz’s son Monte (whose permission was necessary for the event) asked if he could decorate one of the trees. The organizer gleefully agreed. And so, Monte came one day and decorated his tree… It wasn’t until after the wonderland had been packed-away for the year and Monte and the organizer were discussing running it as an annual event, that Monte let him in on a little secret.
That says a lot about the caliber of man who decorated that tree… and the man who raised him. Thank You Mr. Schultz, your gift to us lives on each year… as does your father’s great work of heart. GOD bless you!
DIRECTIONS: Take 101 South (about 7 minutes) – take the 2nd Windsor exit (Old Redwood Highway ramp) – at the bottom of the ramp, Turn Right – you’ll drive forward, past the McDonald’s (on your right) – then Turn Right the 2nd street after the McDonald’s, which is “Market Street” – the next intersection is McClelland Drive – you will see the Charlie Brown Christmas Trees displayed on your left, diagonally from that intersection – either go forward or turn left and park along the street.
Have an enormously festive and wonderful time in this special Christmas place!! (Charles, Monte and Snoopy wouldn’t have it any other way!!)
