For wine lovers, going wine tasting is a most exciting and pleasurable event; one looked forward to with great anticipation. As a novice to the world of wine, the spectacle and experience are intoxicating. Wine tasting may seem a bit overwhelming, even intimidating for a newcomer. However, there’s no wrong way to sensibly enjoy wine. And as any winery host will tell you, “Wine tasting is all about you.” So, your first experience is assured to be a pleasant and comfortable one, as you immerse in Northern Sonoma County tourism’s wine country.

Happy Ladies Enjoying Tasting Wine in Healdsburg

Healdsburg is located in the wine country of Sonoma County, Northern California, and is cradled in the heart of our Alexander Valley, Russian River, and Dry Creek Valley appelations. Our vintners take exceptional pride in the array of wine varietals they produce, so locals and visitors alike can savor equally both the wine and their wine country experience.

Having been to each of these wineries, my wife and I have found the following to be among the best wineries to see when visiting Healdsburg, each with its own unique appeal. We don’t cover the wines, as such, because whether a wine is exceptional or not is entirely a matter of personal taste. The best advice I’ve ever heard on wine tasting is, “If you like it, it’s a good wine. If you don’t, it isn’t.” Simple as that. And if you prefer some objective insight and opinions on various wines before you try them, we suggest the Vivino app (Google or Apple). Vivino rates wines based on input from novice wine tasters to sommeliers and is a highly rated app. Find out which wines Healdsburg is known for by clicking here.

Best Wineries When Visiting Healdsburg

1. Francis Ford Coppola Winery

Far and away, the most exceptional Healdsburg winery experience is The Francis Ford Coppola Winery and Movie Museum. We love this winery. From its world-class cuisine to its iconic movie memorabilia, posh cabana-wrapped pool and spa bay, and café inspired vineyard views, Mr. Coppola has somehow imported the vibrant tastes of life from his worldly travels into a single stunning spectacle. It is simply the one Sonoma County winery you must see.

Coppola is one of the only wineries with food near Healdsburg (with a restaurant onsite). My wife and I love their Moroccan lamb prepared and served in its traditional clay stoneware. Matched with any of the resounding red wines produced at Coppola Winery, it’s a memorable event for two. Coppola is the pinnacle of Alexander Valley wineries.

Francis Ford Coppola Movie Museum

And yet, the most stellar aspect of this astounding winery is its complimentary movie museum. Imagine embracing the moment as you gaze upon the legendary desk used by Marlin Brando and Al Pacino in the timeless classic film The Godfather. Standing before that desk is like being a part of cinematic history. Or seeing the meticulously restored Tucker automobile slowly swirling on its platform in the midst of the museum rotunda. So many priceless artifacts and mementos from movies such as Apocalypse Now, Tucker, Dracula, and The Godfather Trilogy, all marshaled to this one place by the man who changed the landscape of American cinematography. You simply must experience this place at least once in your lifetime.

As for wine tasting, Coppola produces and serves more than forty exquisitely crafted wines from their innovative winemaking process. Plan on spending a lovely day relaxing poolside, sharing a wonderful meal together, or joining one of the ‘Tasting and Tour’ options hosted by the vineyard’s entertaining and knowledgeable staff.
