For wine lovers, going wine tasting is a most exciting and pleasurable event; one looked forward to with great anticipation. As a novice to the world of wine, the spectacle and experience are intoxicating. Wine tasting may seem a bit overwhelming, even intimidating for a newcomer. However, there’s no wrong way to sensibly enjoy wine. And as any winery host will tell you, “Wine tasting is all about you.” So, your first experience is assured to be a pleasant and comfortable one, as you immerse in Northern Sonoma County tourism’s wine country.
Here in Healdsburg, located in the wine country of Sonoma County, Northern California, our vintners take exceptional pride in the array of wine varietals they produce, so locals and visitors alike can savor equally both the wine and their wine country experience.
Having been to each of these wineries, my wife and I have found the following to be among the best wineries in Healdsburg to visit for a variety of reasons. We don’t cover the wines, as such, because whether a wine is exceptional or not is entirely a matter of personal taste. The best advice I’ve ever heard on wine tasting is, “If you like it, it’s a good wine. If you don’t, it isn’t.” Simple as that. And if you prefer some objective insight and opinions on various wines before you try them, we suggest the Vivino app (Google or Apple). Vivino rates wines based on input from novice wine tasters to sommeliers and is a highly rated app. Find out which wines Healdsburg is known for by clicking here.
We’ll go over the list of Top Healdsburg Wineries for 2022, and tell you what makes each one so special, along with links to each winery’s images, videos, phone number, address, and website link (simply click on each Winery Name). Best Wineries in Healdsburg for 2022
Far and away, the most exceptional winery experience in Healdsburg is The Francis Ford Coppola Winery and Movie Museum. We love this winery. From its world-class cuisine to its iconic movie memorabilia, posh cabana-wrapped pool and spa bay, and café inspired vineyard views, Mr. Coppola has somehow imported the vibrant tastes of life from his worldly travels into a single stunning spectacle. It is simply the one Sonoma County winery you must see.
My wife and I love the Moroccan lamb prepared and served in its traditional clay stoneware. Matched with any of the resounding red wines produced at Coppola Winery, it’s an enchanting event for two.
And yet, the most stellar aspect of this astounding winery is its complimentary movie museum. Imagine embracing the moment as you gaze upon the legendary desk used by Marlin Brando and Al Pacino in the timeless classic film The Godfather. Standing before that desk is like being a part of cinematic history. Or seeing the meticulously restored Tucker automobile slowly swirling on its platform in the midst of the museum rotunda. So many priceless artifacts and mementos from movies such as Apocalypse Now, Tucker, Dracula, and The Godfather Trilogy, all marshaled to this one place by the man who changed the landscape of American cinematography. You simply must experience this place at least once in your lifetime.
As for wine tasting, Coppola produces and serves more than forty exquisitely crafted wines from their innovative winemaking process. Plan on spending a lovely day relaxing poolside, sharing a wonderful meal together, or joining one of the ‘Tasting and Tour’ options hosted by the vineyard’s entertaining and knowledgeable staff.
Without question, the wines of Jordan Winery set a standard of excellence. Recently named among the “Year’s Best U.S. Cabernets”, Jordan takes pride in being one of the most esteemed vineyards of our Alexander Valley. Featuring four unique wine tours and tastings assures a most enjoyable occasion. Whether a hiking tour of its progressive farming and apiculturist preserve, a food and wine pairing event, or one of Jordan’s gorgeous outdoor dinners, these by-appointment-only affairs range from casual country charm to sophisticated soiree. Jordan is always a romantic and remarkable experience. (see Happenings Calendar for Jordan Events)
You’ll feel as though you’ve sauntered into an English Estate as you view their beautiful chateau, and learn about its history from their pampering, professional staff. Jordan is an extraordinary encounter you’ll want to immerse in, as few wineries can touch you the way Jordan can. Exploring Jordan Vineyard and Winery is an experience equaling that of the most prestigious wineries in the world.
Prepare to lose your heart, swept away by beautiful gardens, lovely vineyard landscapes, and eloquence of scenery only dreamed about in a winery. Breath-taking is Ferrari-Carano.
Guests can stroll spectacular vineyard scenery, lush intimate gardens with koi ponds, and enjoy highly acclaimed wines in this picturesque vineyard estate. Nestled in our beautiful Dry Creek Valley, Ferrari-Carano features award-winning varietals from sustainably farmed vineyards, which yield flawlessly delicate Chardonnays, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blancs. Ferrari-Carano is an exhibit in commitment to class, hospitality, and winery splendor.
Starlite’s selection of European stylized wines is a reflection of winemaking as it once was in antiquity. Where a rare array of varietals were crafted for nobility by artisans expertised in making softer, more luxurious wines.
Rooted in a singular devotion to recapturing the essence of this near lost art, owners Arman and Melekah patiently pursued their aspiration, until the fruit of the vine finally yielded a purer essence.
This slower, more nurturing process allows for soft aromatic reflections of their vineyard’s fruit to dance in your glass. Sensations such as thyme, lavender, and floral accents embrace you, lingering long after each sultry sip.
These vintners bring forth wines with elegance, where time itself is an ingredient, and a cooler, slower approach to winemaking exists. Which is why Starlite is a preferred destination among experts who wish to savor subtle layers and rich delicacies in a wine (instead of the stark, oaky sharpness of its barrel).
When your heart seeks silkier, gentler wines, shared with pairings, while encompassed by an extraordinary art collection, chart your course by Starlite.
A mere stone’s throw outside Healdsburg, Lambert Bridge makes you feel as if you’ve wandered upon a charming, posh cabin lost deep in a redwood forest. By far, the friendliest winery my wife and I have ever visited. Their staff is radiant, beyond warm and welcoming, and only part of what makes Lambert Bridge one of Healdsburg’s elite wineries. As you roam along their flower and vine-filled porch, making your way into
a superbly luxuriant and comfortable lodge, you simply may want to spend the rest of your life here. Old-world and comfy, the lodge surrounds you in rich wood and rustic grandeur, with a sense of peace and calm that draws you in as if you were home.
Lambert Bridge awaits you like a warm, enduring, endearing memory. Its redwood forest feel holds you in a way most wineries can only hope to. There’s simply something special in how this distinctive place and its staff embrace you.
An incomparable exhibit in architectural style and grace is the luxuriantly cosmopolitan venue that is Flowers. Another notable winery, reflecting the heart and soul of its visionary founder. The concept of Flowers is to capture serene settings; each echoing the room of a grand, stately residence. A warm, welcoming den. A distinguished dining room. A luxuriant library. An outdoor gallery balcony. All unfolding in the master craftsmanship of magnificent woodworks.
Flowers vineyards, caressed each morning by coastal mists, are beautifully rendered in the stellar triptych photograph embellishing the high vaulted foyer of this superb sanctuary. This is a winery to remember.
Silver Oak is one of the newer venues on the scene, merging the alluring architecture of a grand and noble gabled design with sweeping Alexander Valley views and premier wines. This expansive ambiance is present in all aspects of Silver Oak, from its majestically relaxing tasting lounge to its open-air foyer, to its airily arched banquet room. And at its center is an encompassed wine cellar room, unparalleled in its stoically bold expression. Silver Oak embraces a classic feel, merging clean graceful lines of design, all accented by crisp rectangular mirror pools.
Consistently producing some of San Francisco’s most sought-after wines makes this remarkable winery, surrounded by a 112-acre estate, one of our premier vineyards. The vineyard captures vivid bouquets and exceptional subtlety in its wines with its prolonged aging process.
Known for stylish events and sumptuous dining affairs, Dry Creek Vineyard is one of the oldest wineries in the Dry Creek Valley. With an array of specialty wines and appreciation for the art of sailing, DCV sets the standard for sophistication and classic appeal, mirrored in their renowned Chardonnay and Zinfandel varietals.
One of the few family-owned wineries, Dry Creek Vineyard endeavors to ensure every bottle that carries its label makes the taster yearn for more. Founded in 1972, DCV helped revitalize the winemaking industry in the area after the difficult Prohibition years. Relaxed and inviting, the place is an ideal spot for a winery getaway with family and friends. Offering snacks perfectly matching their wines, you can enjoy both in their lovely picnic courtyard while spending a day in an incredibly relaxing corner of the winery world.
