“Places From The Heart” 2023 at The Upstairs Art Gallery in Healdsburg

Sonoma County artist, Linda Barretta, presents Places from the Heart, oil paintings that translate the artist’s strong sense of place into vibrant landscape masterpieces. Working in the colorist tradition, these works are filled with the magic of color: the saturated lights and shadows pulse with intensity. From the forest to the vineyards to the coast, Barretta’s works express her passion for these familiar places. Highlighting the grandeur of the Sonoma Coast, “Headlands, Bodega Bay” features its rugged cliffs crowned by bursts of colorful vegetation. Shades of yellow mustard star in “Casting Light,” a plein air piece painted close to home. “I often think about what Charles Hawthorne said about colors – ‘make them sing and vibrate’ – this is my goal,” noted Barretta. Reflecting the artist’s eye for color and passion for place, these works bring new light to beloved scenes.
