Right at the edge of town, is the very popular Healdsburg Ridge Open Space Preserve, which is a mid-level hiking experience, with scenic overlooks (at its uppermost peaks) and well-shaded trails. Riverfront Regional Park is perfect for a gentle (even romantic) stroll around Lake Benoist. Foothills and Shiloh Ranch Regional Parks are quite popular as well, and are intermediate to more challenging. And if you’re really looking to solid hiking experience, Lake Sonoma has a myriad of trails and passages for a good aerobic workout. And remember Armstrong Woods, which has beautiful paved trails as well as harder hikes, all through the luscious, gorgeous redwood forest!
Are There Entrance Fees For Hiking Trails In Healdsburg??
Hiking areas in Healdsburg are generally free, however some (like Riverfront Regional Park) charge a small parking fee. Most other parks that have a parking fee also have free road side parking (but not Riverfront).
Are The Trails In Healdsburg Dog-Friendly?
Dogs are allowed on most Healdsburg area trails, however they may be required to be on a leash. Healdsburg Ridge Open Space Preserve and Riverfront Regional Park allow dogs on leashes. Shiloh Ranch Regional Park DOES NOT allow dogs, because it is a horse trail – and you will be fined if caught hiking with a dog in this park.

Healdsburg has a mild climate and is just under the frost line, so hiking is pretty comfortable year-round. Though the best times are spring and fall when the climate is cooler, the hills are rolling with greenery, and wildflowers are in abundance. Summer can get pretty hot, so it’s best to hike early in the morning or later on in the afternoon.
