Community Band
Our local Healdsburg Community Band began back in 1981, when the directors of the Rohnert Park Community Band, Larry and Judy Price, were in search of bass players for their Christmas performances. The Prices reached out to then Healdsburg High School band leader Lew Sbrana. After a passing comment from Lew about the need for such a band in Healdsburg, Judy prompted the trio to give it a go, and thus were planted the seeds of today’s community band and its performers.
Among the initial performers was one Milton “Milt” Brandt, for whom Lake Sonoma’s Visitor Center is named. Milt, who played drums, had a storied history dedicated to nature conservation, property rights and business development in our region. As it turns out, many members of The Healdsburg Community Band have been ardent contributors to our city and its civic organizations over the decades.
Today, these talented musicians gracing our community band have a pretty full schedule, typically performing at least monthly, in addition to carrying on busy lives contributing to our town’s success and well-being.
You can check our “Happenings” calendar for details on performances. And while admittance is always Free, donations are always appreciated as this is a labor of love for our beloved ensemble.
