Volunteer Stewardship Workday

Volunteer Stewardship Workday in Healdsburg
LandPaths is excited to invite volunteers to help us care for the land while exploring the beautiful Riddell Preserve, a 400-acre wonderland above Dry Creek with magnificent native grasslands, pure madrone stands, redwood fairy rings, and perennial springs. The Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) is a native conifer but due to the lack of fire on the land they grow very fast and grow in dense stands. If left unchecked they can overshadow our oak woodlands and become a fuel ladder. Our goal for today is to act like fire and cut down the small Douglas firs that are growing underneath the oaks and madrones. This not only helps support biodiversity in the oak woodlands but it also makes the forest a bit more fire resilient.
