J. Rochioli Winery

The Rochioli family originally migrated to the United States in 1911. After the birth of Joe Rochioli Jr., in 1934, the family moved to the 125-acre parcel which today is the Rochioli vineyard. During those days much of the land in this area was dedicated to the raising of prunes and hops among other various crops. Grapes were a small part of this farm’s produce, as the wine industry in northern California was still a few generations away from taking off.

In 1959, the family began planting Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. The vines planted in 1959 are still producing fruit today and are considered among some of the rarest, most established grapevines throughout California. However, it wasn’t until 1983 that the family decided to take the grapes they had been growing for other winemakers and to begin to produce their own wine under their own label. It was then that Rochioli Vineyards was born.

During a trip to Burgundy with his wife, Tom Rochioli learned of the importance of keeping grapes from different lots within the vineyard separate one from another. It was this practice that led to the production of wines with distinct nuances of flavor, body and character. Today these wines, with their unique characteristics, are the heart and soul behind Rochioli Vineyards and Winery.
