The Talty Vineyards and Winery began in 1997, after having purchased a 6-acre vineyard in the Dry Creek Valley. Michael Talty and his father had dreamt for years of owning a vineyard in Sonoma County, however Michael’s father, William, passed away before that could happen. Nonetheless, with the inspiration of the words in memory of his father, and their plans together, Michael and his family began looking for property when they came across the vineyard they own today.

The first public release of a wine was in 2003, which was a Zinfandel they named after Michael’s father William. Originally the vineyard was planted in 1963 in what most have come to know as “Zinfandel Country”. From vine to wine, each of their Zinfandels is handcrafted and brings to fruition Michael and his father William’s dream. Their vines are cultured so that their production is low, yet the concentration of flavor and potential of the fruit those vineyards produce is ripely piqued. After aging in a barrel for one year, Talty’s wines are aged an additional year after being bottled. The secret of their process is in making a single wine, and making it the best wine possible. And for the Talty family, that wine is Zinfandel.
