Healdsburg's World Renowned Wine Library

The Wine Library

The seeds of our world class Winery Library were sewn in the mid-1970’s by Ms. Millie Howie, a San Francisco native who pioneered both winery public relations in the North Coast region and The Russian River Wine Road. Today known as Wine Road, the Russian River Wine Road was one of the first such winery associations.

In 1989, in conjunction with the Russian River Wine Road, the Healdsburg Library established its Wine Library selection, which first required a new library be built. With the heart of becoming the world’s most comprehensive array of rare and contemporary books and research materials on every aspect of wine, the library amassed vast and copious materials on its making, history, bottling, culture and potential future.

To date, the Wine Library has dozens of periodicals both domestic and foreign, research indices of global information and resources, as well as the historical archives of the North Coast wine culture. Its compendium contains nearly 5,500 books. The library has cultivated and now curates over 1,000 rare pieces of hard bound literature dating back as far as the year 1514, whose contents cover wine from antiquity through today.

When you go into the Wine Library these days, you’ll find everyone from winery insiders looking to glean ancient secrets of wine making, to casual wine lovers fascinated by its allure and history, all exploring these abundantly rich archives.

Come, be a part of winery history as you taste and savor our rich wine culture and reach deeply into its roots at our world renowned Healdsburg Wine Library.
